The Royal Wedding, Gnomeo & Juliet, & I Am Number Four

This week, the #1 DVD is The Royal Wedding: William & Catherine, BBC's complete coverage of the wedding which includes the full ceremony and pre- and post-wedding highlights.

As for theatrical features now on DVD, the first biggie this week is the animated romantic comedy Gnomeo & Juliet.  Extras include "Elton Builds a Garden," "Frog Talk with Ashley Jensen," and "Crocodile Rock" music video.  Also availble is the 3D Blu-ray/DVD combo and the regular Blu-ray/DVD combo.

The other big theatrical release is the sci-fi/romantic/thriller I Am Number Four, starring Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron.  Extras on the DVD include "Becoming Number 6" and bloopers.  The Blu-ray/DVD combo also includes 6 deleted/extended scenes.

Rounding out the releases this week are Lemonade Mouth (Extended Edition) and several classic films and mini-series on Blu-ray: Platoon, Gettsyburg (Director's Cut), Gods and Generals, The Great Dictator, Grand Prix, Le Mans and Papillon.

The Mechanic, The Rite, The Other Woman, ESPN Films...

This week, three theatrical films dominate the best sellers spot, starting with The Mechanic, starring Jason Statham.  Extras include a "Tools of the Trade" featurette and deleted/extended scenes.  Next up is The Rite, the exorcism thriller starring Anthony Hopkins.  Only bonus feature are additional scenes (the Blu-ray has more extras, including an alternate ending and a featurette about the true events that inspired the movie).  The third theatrical film and best seller this week is The Other Woman, starring Natalie Portman. Other than the theatrical trailer, there are no extras.

Also out this week:  ESPN has released a second volume of their 30 for 30 documentary film series, season 2 of the original Bionic Woman TV show, the direct-to-DVD animated film Thor: Tales of Asgard, and the suspense thriller The Roommate, starring Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester.

Justin Bieber, No Strings Attached, Blue Valentine, Black Death...

This week's biggest DVD is Justin Bieber's bio documentary Never Say Never. Extras include several featurettes, including a "Concert Dance Off," a full-length performance of "Favorite Girl," "R.I.P. Hair Flip" - Justin cutting his signature hair, and "Giving Back," in which Justin's team surprises lucky fans with concert tickets.
 
The next two big sellers this week are two romantic theatrical films, one comedy and one drama:  First, the romantic comedy, No Strings Attached, starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.  Extras include an audio commentary from director Ivan Reitman, deleted scenes, "Sex Friends: Getting Together," "Inside the Sassy halls of Secret High," and more.  Second, the romantic drama, Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.  Extras include an audio commentary, deleted scenes, a Making-of featurette, and home movies.

Last three biggies this week are:  1. the concert film featuring rock legends AC/DC: Live at River Plate, from their recent Black Ice tour;  2. Black Death, the medievel adventure starring Sean Bean;  and 3. The Illusionist, the Oscar-nominated (traditional) animated film from the director of The Triplets of Belleville.

The Green Hornet, Boy Meets World, Being Human, and The Dilemma

This week's big DVD release is The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen. It's released in three versions: 3D Blu-ray/DVD combo, Blu-ray, and single DVD.  Extras on the single DVD include an audio commentary by the filmmakers, a gag reel, a "Writing The Green Hornet" featurette, and "The Black Beauty: Rebirth of Cool" featurette about the car.  The Blu-ray versions have several more special features.

Next up this week are two TV shows:  The first is an older teen sitcom from the '90s, Boy Meets World, Season 5.  The other TV series is the recent British supernatural drama, Being Human, Season 3.

Rounding out the top sellers this week are the theatrical buddy/romantic comedy The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, Drop Dead Diva Season 2, Murdoch Mysteries Season 3, and Melrose Place Season 6 Volume 1.
